GIRL SCOUTS MEET IN AFRICA
The Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) is sending a delegation of nine to the 33rd World Conference of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, July 6-12. The theme of the conference is: Join in, Reach out, Change lives!
The world conference is held once every three years in a different country to promote the mission of the WAGGGS which is to enable girls and young women to develop their fullest potential as responsible citizens of the world.
The WAGGGS member organizations meet together in conference to determine and consider the policy of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting throughout the world, set the policy for the next three years and deal with business matters, and to exchange ideas and experiences.
The Girl Scouts of the Philippines is one of the 144 member organizations of the WAGGGS, the largest volunteer organization for girls and young women with more than 10 million members around the world.
The GSP delegation is composed of: Teresita Choa, National President; Divina Bautista, International Commissioner; Susan Locsin, 1st National Vice-President; Cristina Yuson, National Treasurer; Marybelle Mariñas, Legal Committee Chairman; Faith Suzzette Kong, Vice-President for International, Zamboanga Council; Febe Marl Paat, Asia Pacific Committee member, WAGGGS; Ma. Dolores Santiago, National Executive Director; and, Marilyn Factor, International Affairs Officer.
In 2002, GSP hosted the WAGGGS 31st World Conference at the historic Manila Hotel where close to 500 delegates from over 100 countries converged to launch the WAGGGS program for the triennium.
